Just as the olives start to ripen, experience a real Tuscan Olive harvest at Maraviglia, a 400-year-old farmhouse.
A Tuscan Escape
To truly understand olive oil you must also learn about the territory and history of Tuscan agriculture. Nestled near the medieval village of Monte San Savino, in the heart of the protected Toscano IGP denomination, we'll discover local gems, visit craft food producers and traditional Tuscan restaurants, experience a small town food festival, wallow in thermal springs and soak up the natural pace of rural life. All food provided at the farm is locally grown and organic.
Retreat Highlights
- Olive picking at Maraviglia: You'll learn about different olive varietals, how they're maintained, pruned and harvested. You'll enjoy a BBQ salamella lunch under the trees and experience pressing olives into oil.
- Hike to Gargonza Castle: Setting off on foot from Maraviglia, you'll hike to the medieval walled village of Gargonza, looking out over the Valdichiana Valley.
- Thermal Baths: Everyone needs a day to unwind after harvest! You'll take a day trip to the natural outdoor hot springs located in an ancient Tuscan town. For lunch you'll sample typical flaours of Val di Chiana.
- Visit a hidden village: You'll hike to a remote village in the majestic mountain range of Pratomagno. Roberto will host you at his home restaurant, the menu based on whatever seasonal, locally-sourced or foraged ingredients he finds on the day.
